Leeward Community Church cannot care for the church body, share Jesus’ love in our community or in other countries, nor help develop Christian growth in others. Many administrative or support functions of the church would go untended because together, WE ARE THE CHURCH.
If you desire to care for others, serve with others in the Leeward Ohana, or support the church in some way please contact the church office for more information about serving in any of the ministries below.
Christian Growth Ministries
1. AWANA (“Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” ref. 2 Tim 2:15)
Volunteers Always Needed!
Join teachers and helpers to help raise children to know, love and serve Christ through various “clubs”. The AWANA meet on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM at the church.
2. Child Care – Events/Meetings (NEW) Co-Leaders & Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers in this ministry allow parents to give their full attention during events or church meetings. Both adults and older minors are able to serve in this critical need ministry. Volunteers serve as their schedule allows, it is not required to serve at every event or meeting.
3. High School and Junior High Youth Ministry Youth Staff Leaders Needed!
Our vision seeks to bring God glory through our youth by creating a fun, Christ centered, youth community focused on interpersonal relationships with God and people. Activities include overnighters, camps, scavenger hunts, and much more. It’s a place to meet other teens and grow closer to God.
4. HOME Group Connect!
Small groups of people meet weekly in various homes and at the church to help each other get connected into a spiritual family, where they can grow to love God and be cared for as individuals.
5. Men’s Ministries
This team is committed to helping, encouraging, and inspiring all men to become fully devoted followers of Christ. This goal is accomplished through Men’s Breakfast and BBQ fellowship gatherings, mentoring groups, weekend retreats.
6. Senior’s Ministries
This ministry is to help mature adults in our church and community to grow in their relationship to Jesus and serving God by demonstrating His love and care through fellowship and activities.
7. Women’s Ministry Co-Leaders Needed!
This ministry is committed to honor God and meet the needs of women by equipping, encouraging, and making Jesus’ love known. This vision is currently carried out through bible studies, mentoring, special interest groups, community partnerships, retreats, fellowships, and outreach events.
8. Young Adult Ministry-College
This team provides a variety of activities for college age individuals, giving them the opportunity to meet and interact with others, while growing closer to God. This includes coordinating with college campus ministries on Tuesday nights and other special interest activities that include music, sports and food throughout the year.
9. Young Adult Ministry-Early Career
This division of Young Adults provides small group meetings during the week that tailor its contents to the growing needs of this older group. The Young Adults combine to also provide outlets for music, sports, and food throughout the year.
Sunday Service Ministries
1. Communion Preparation
Help prepare the elements for communion service held on the 1st Sunday of each month which includes cutting the bread, pouring the juice and setting up the elements in the front of the sanctuary before each service. Also, a separate team assists in clean-up.
2. Greeters and Ushers
In addition to handing out the Sunday bulletins, greeters offer a smiling face, warm handshake, and a friendly greeting to help people feel welcome and provide help and direction for first time guests. Ushers also help seat people, handle crowd control, answer a multitude of questions, and help collect the weekly offering.
3. Offering Counters
Assist the Assistant Treasurer in receiving and counting the weekly offering. Counters sort the checks, cash and envelopes to count and tally the offering, then log the offering totals in the Offering Log Book.
4. Sunday Adult Bible Classes
The Church is called to be the pillar and support of the truth and so this team plans and coordinates the adult Bible classes and workshops during the Sunday morning class time.
5. Sunday Morning Refreshments
This team manages the busiest, most popular gathering spot in the church – the refreshment line. Volunteers set up, clean up, and bring refreshments on a rotating basis, and serve the body cheerfully.
6. Sunday Nursery / Childcare Volunteers Always Needed!
Nursery and Childcare is offered under the care of our AWANA Ministry. Care takers for Nursery and Toddlers are needed during Sunday School and 2nd service.
7. Sunday Parking
This team helps manage the flow of traffic on the church property on Sunday morning during the transitional period between the two services. They also manage parking logistics for special events held at the church throughout the year.
8. Welcome Center
Welcoming and providing information to newcomers and alike, about “a place to belong and believe” is what this team provides. This center is usually manned after each service for half an hour, and during Sunday School. It also involves setting up and breaking down of the center.
9/ Worship Team
This team is for singers and musicians who have a heart to minister to the congregation through praise and worship. This team’s purpose is to help the church family celebrate God’s presence in every area of our lives. The team practices on Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
1. Joyful Singers
This is a fun group of men and women who like singing many different kinds of music, visiting care homes and Sr. Day Care to bring cheer to the elderly and sick. Practices are held weekly on Mondays at 10:00 am.
2. Missions Team
The Missions Team will work with the Pastoral staff and other ongoing Church ministries to encourage missions participation in the church. The Team assists in coordinating the annual C&MA Missions Conference. The Team also highlights attention to prayer and financial support for missionaries from our fellowship and selected C&MA missionaries. The Team will also coordinate sending teams on short-term mission trips as appropriate.
3. Parenting Ministry
Help solve a family crisis in our community by presenting practical solutions to parents with strong-willed children, teaching their children life skills, introducing them to Jesus Christ, and integrating them into the life of our church. Presentations made occasionally. (Mark Y.)
4. Seniors’ Car Wash Outreach
Help wash the cars of senior citizens in our community. We provide this community service once a month on the 2nd Saturday from 9:00AM to 12:00 NOON. This is for people who want to provide practical help to people in our community as an act of love in helping others.
1. Building and Grounds Volunteers Always Needed!
This is the “behind the scenes” crew, taking care of the building and grounds. Painting, cleaning, fixing, and building projects are just some of the things to be done around the church. A workday is held once a month on the 2nd Saturday with lunch provided OR you can volunteer weekdays if this is more convenient.
2. Care Meals Co-Leaders Needed!
Prepare and deliver meals to families during special times of need, such as maternity, illness, death in the family, etc. People who enjoy serving others through food preparation are welcome on this team.
3. Food Service
For a church who loves to eat, we need those who love to be able to shop, prepare, serve, cook, and perform kitchen duties for various events throughout the year at different times. An “on call list” will be used to find out your availability for these events.
4. Kokua Fund Committee
This committee receives requests for financial aid from the Kokua Fund. They will consider all requests from the congregation and non-church attendees through an application process that includes meeting with the person requesting the aid.
5. Legislative Affairs Committee.
This committee helps the congregation be aware of the issues that are being considered by our legislature that may affect our Christian values and lifestyle. They will also be encouraging people to register to vote.
6. Lending Library
This team manages the Lending Library to lend books and audio/visual resources to encourage people in their walk with God. This ministry also wants to support Sunday school classes to have resources available for them.
7. Prayer Chain
Be a part of a prayer chain to pray for the urgent needs of others. This ministry is for people who have a heart to pray for others. Participants will be contacted either by phone or email as part of prayer chain to pray for the needs of others.
8. Special Events – Food Service, Setup Volunteers Always Needed!
Serve at special events wherever needed in set-up, food preparation and serving, and clean-up. Serving at all events is NOT required – you choose which events to serve at. Some of our major events are Easter Breakfast / Lunch and Family Camp.
Administrative Helps Ministries
1/ Audio / Visual / Stage Lighting Operation
This team has opportunities to serve in running the sound system, video production and editing, operating visuals and/or lighting during Sunday services and special events. The team needs a variety of individuals with experience in sound, a passion for music, stage lighting, and operating computer presentation software and projection equipment. If you possess technical skills to operate the equipment OR are willing to learn how, please call us.
2. First Aid
This ministry helps to maintain the first aid kits in the church and maintain the list of people available to give first aid.
3. General Office Help
Caring for and communicating with our church family requires lots of written and verbal communication and graphics. This team works together or individually to create and prepare the weekly bulletins, monthly mailers and flyers for distribution.
4. Information Technology
The purpose of this ministry is to help the church manage and communicate information using available technologies. This team supports the church’s computer network and information systems to maintain and communicate electronic information. The church’s website is also developed and maintained by this team.
5. Property Security
This ad hoc team is activated to patrol the church grounds to help protect property and equipment from vandalism and theft during various events and event preparations.
6. Sanctuary and Stage Decorations |
The team’s main task is to prepare the sanctuary for worship including the area outside of the Sanctuary (Lanai area), the upstairs bathrooms and the basement. Decorations, plants and fresh flowers are used to accent and brighten the sanctuary to enhance the worship experience.
7. Website – Church
This team is helping to design and create a new website for the church to replace our current one. They will corroborate with professional web designers to help create the new site. And once created, they will be involved in maintaining the website on a regular basis to keep it fresh. Our website is one of the primary ways people find out about our church to find the information they need to help them whether to decide to visit us.
