Day 25: Entertainment/Comfort

Zoe Ong

1: Scripture

"Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." -Romans 12:2

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." - 1 John 2:15

2: Connection Point

Entertainment and comfort are something we are always looking for, whether we are at home, school or out around town. When we’re at home we plop onto the couch and start watching Youtube, Netflix, Hulu or have a nice long finger workout out scrolling through Instagram. Sometimes you might even multitask and be watching netflix on tv and a funny video on our phones. When we’re out were looking for hikes, beaches, new foods and places to entertain us. It seems like our world is revolving around comfort and entertainment.

Last summer I went to Molokai for a missions trip. I wasn’t in the comfort of my home. There was NO wifi, NO electricity, NO hot water and worst of all NO ASIAN FOOD!

But I wasn't there for my comfort and entertainment I was there to be trained for teaching kids about the Gospel. So what I was doing was for God’s glory not my own pleasure and it took me a second to remember that.

We’re a generation that puts our own comfort before others, but that’s not what God wants. In Matthew 19:21-22 this rich young man asks Jesus what he needs to do to have eternal life but what Jesus says wasn’t what he wanted to hear. It meant giving up a life in comfort to follow Jesus.

So are we willing to giving up our comfort and entertainment to follow God? Our homes, families, hot showers, food and technology to give God all the glory?

3: Journaling / Prayer

- What thing of comfort that distracts you the most?

- What are you going to give up this week to put others before yourself

- Pray and ask God to push you out of your comfort zone. Whether a missions or doing announcements
